Electoral Office Confirms Unauthorised Remote Access, Voters’ Registers Remain Intact

The Office of the Supervisor of Elections has confirmed that an unauthorised person or persons gained remote online access to the Electoral Office’s computer systems located on Central Street, Basseterre.

According to officials, preliminary investigations indicate that the unauthorised access occurred over a period of months and was detected through internal monitoring processes. Upon discovery, the Department of Information Technology was immediately engaged and successfully terminated the unauthorised access, securing the affected systems.

The Supervisor of Elections has since launched an investigation into the incident, with support from the White Collar Crime Unit of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force. Authorities have indicated that the investigation remains ongoing as they work to determine the full scope and origin of the breach.

Importantly, preliminary assessments have confirmed that there has been no compromise, alteration, or corruption of the voters’ registers or electoral lists. Officials stressed that the integrity of the electoral database remains intact.

Investigators believe the unauthorised activity was limited to the extraction of the electoral list and related information.

The Office of the Supervisor of Elections has reiterated its commitment to transparency and safeguarding the integrity of the electoral system, noting that additional security measures and reviews are being undertaken as part of the response.
