St. Kitts and Nevis has taken part in a high-level diplomatic engagement in Central Asia, as Ambassador Mutryce Williams, Permanent Representative of the Federation to the United Nations, joined a group of Permanent Representatives for talks with the President of the Kyrgyz Republic in Bishkek.
The meeting, held on 29th January, 2026, brought together nine United Nations Permanent Representatives for discussions with Sadyr Zhaparov, focusing on global challenges and opportunities for strengthened multilateral cooperation. Saint Kitts and Nevis participated alongside representatives from Andorra, Chad, Gabon, Guatemala, Guinea-Bissau, Guyana, Namibia, and South Sudan.
Discussions centred on a wide range of pressing international issues, including the evolving geopolitical environment, threats to regional and global security, counter-terrorism efforts, climate change, nuclear non-proliferation, and progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals. The engagement provided an opportunity for frank exchanges on how multilateral institutions can respond more effectively to global instability and emerging risks.
President Zhaparov reaffirmed Kyrgyzstan’s commitment to the principles of the United Nations Charter, international law, and the peaceful resolution of conflicts. He emphasised that, amid growing global uncertainty, sustained dialogue, solidarity, and constructive engagement among states remain essential to preserving international stability.
The Kyrgyz leader also underscored his country’s readiness to contribute to global security initiatives, support sustainable development efforts, and advocate for the interests of developing countries and small states within international forums.
The Permanent Representatives, including Ambassador Williams, commended Kyrgyzstan’s socio-economic progress and its active role in promoting international cooperation and peaceful conflict resolution. They highlighted the country’s consistent advocacy for small and developing states and its efforts to advance a more inclusive and balanced international order.
The engagement concluded with a shared commitment to deepen cooperation in several areas, including the protection and sustainable development of mountain regions, the expansion of multilateral and bilateral trade and economic ties, investment and tourism, and cultural and educational exchanges.
For St. Kitts and Nevis, the engagement formed part of its ongoing diplomatic outreach through the United Nations, reinforcing the Federation’s commitment to multilateralism, dialogue, and constructive international partnerships.
