Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew says his participation in the World Governments Summit 2026 in Dubai is centred on securing practical partnerships for St. Kitts and Nevis, particularly in renewable energy, water security and sustainable investment.
Speaking from Dubai on Wednesday morning, Dr. Drew described the summit as a critical platform for small island developing states to engage directly with global decision-makers at a time of growing economic and environmental complexity.
“The world is becoming increasingly complex, and governments must be bold, prepared and people-centred in their approach,” the Prime Minister said. “The future will not wait, and we must act decisively if we are to meet emerging challenges.”
Dr. Drew confirmed that his engagements included discussions with senior officials from the United Arab Emirates, including meetings focused on renewable energy development and investment cooperation. He said those conversations are especially relevant as St. Kitts and Nevis continues to pursue energy transition and climate-resilient infrastructure.
“I am very encouraged by the level of interest in St. Kitts and Nevis,” he said. “We are having serious conversations about renewable energy, about water, and about how investment can support sustainable development in small island states like ours.”
The Prime Minister also highlighted a visit to a solar energy facility in the UAE, where water production and energy generation are closely integrated. He noted that the model offers valuable lessons for the Federation as it works to modernise its water systems.
“We have spent significant resources addressing water challenges at home,” Dr. Drew explained. “Seeing how renewable energy is being used here to support water security shows us what is possible when technology and planning come together.”
Addressing concerns about the cost of the overseas engagement, the Prime Minister was clear that the visit placed no burden on public finances.
“I want to be very clear – this visit has come at no cost to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis,” he said. “It is fully sponsored, and we are very mindful that every engagement must deliver value while respecting the public purse.”
Dr. Drew also praised the Government of the United Arab Emirates for hosting the summit, describing it as an example of forward-thinking governance and international cooperation.
“I commend the leadership of the UAE for creating a space where countries can exchange ideas openly and honestly,” he said. “This summit demonstrates what can be achieved when nations come together to focus on solutions rather than divisions.”
The World Governments Summit 2026 is being held in Dubai from 3rd to 5th February and brings together heads of government, ministers, global institutions and private sector leaders to discuss the future of governance, sustainability and innovation. Dr. Drew said St. Kitts and Nevis will continue to use international platforms strategically to advance national development priorities.
