MP Samal Duggins Highlights History and Heritage Month Observance

Member of Parliament for St. Christopher Four, Samal Duggins, has expressed pride in standing alongside his Cabinet colleagues as History and Heritage Month 2026 was observed.

The occasion was marked by Cabinet members wearing Afro-Caribbean attire, symbolising the nation’s shared history and cultural identity.

Mr. Duggins noted that the period of reflection, which coincides internationally with Black History Month, is both a time for celebration and remembrance. He said it offers an opportunity to honour the resilience, sacrifice and determination of those who came before, whose struggles helped lay the foundation for the freedoms enjoyed today.

He added that, as part of the global African diaspora, the story of St. Kitts and Nevis continues to hold significance not only within the Caribbean, but on the wider world stage.

Pointing to recent Government initiatives, Mr. Duggins highlighted efforts to strengthen ties with Africa, including the signing of memoranda of understanding, the introduction of visa-free travel arrangements with Nigeria, and the expansion of cultural, trade and exchange partnerships.

He described Black history as a story of collective effort, leadership and progress, one that continues through public service rooted in accountability and care for the people.

Mr. Duggins added that the focus remains on moving forward while respecting the past and taking responsibility for shaping a fairer, more united and more prosperous future for generations to come.
