Residents of Old Road had a direct opportunity to raise concerns with senior law enforcement officials this week as the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force carried out a community walkthrough in the area.
Commissioner of Police James Sutton, Deputy Commissioner Cromwell Henry, Assistant Commissioners Andre Mitchell, James Francis and Travis Rogers, along with Superintendent Jasper Carty and Force Personnel Officer Eartha Carey, met residents face-to-face during the engagement organised in partnership with the National Council on Drug Abuse Prevention Secretariat.

The initiative formed part of the Government’s broader community engagement efforts ahead of ongoing national discussions on drug policy, public safety and wellbeing.
Residents openly discussed issues including cannabis decriminalisation, public smoking restrictions, traffic congestion and road safety. Officers listened to concerns, answered questions and encouraged continued dialogue between the community and law enforcement.
Force Personnel Officer Carey, who also serves as Coordinator of the Government’s Human Security and Wellbeing Taskforce, said building trust remains central to effective policing.
“Community safety cannot be achieved by enforcement alone. It requires partnership, communication and mutual respect between residents and the police,” she said. “These engagements allow us to hear directly from citizens and to work together on practical solutions that improve wellbeing and reduce harm.”
Several residents welcomed the opportunity to speak directly with senior officers, noting that the presence of high-ranking personnel signalled a willingness by the police to listen and respond to community concerns.
The Police Force indicated that similar engagements will continue in other communities as part of efforts to strengthen relationships, promote responsible behaviour and support national crime-prevention initiatives.
