Basseterre, St. Kitts (SKNSOURCE) — Former deputy prime minister of St. Kitts and Nevis and current political leader of the People’s Action Movement, Hon. Shawn Richards, says he is “contemplating” his political future.
“My political career has been a journey filled with both triumphs and challenges and has demanded significant sacrifices. Through it all, I have remained steadfast and committed to my goals,” Richards added.
“It has been a day of deep introspection and contemplation,” he stated as he marked his 19th year as a member of St. Kitts and Nevis’ National Assembly. “Upon reflection, I attribute my triumph then and in all subsequent elections primarily to divine providence and secondarily to the people of the proud town of Sandy Point.”
Between 2015 and 2022, the People’s Action Movement leader held portfolios of education and youth, sports, public infrastructure, posts, water services, and urban development while serving as a member of the Team Unity coalition government, which later collapsed in early 2022 due to fighting for coalition leadership.
“This journey has been a valuable learning experience, one which has taught me a great deal about myself, my supporters, and my detractors. As I reflect on the past 19 years, I also find myself contemplating my future in politics.”
Richards, who was recently reinstalled as PAM’s political leader and narrowly retained his seat, said, “the question of whether to stay in politics or pursue other opportunities is one that I will answer in due time.”
