Sint Maarten police detain 14 in raid linked to human smuggling

The Police Force of Sint Maarten (KPSM) has made a dent in human smuggling on the Dutch overseas territory.

KPSM reported it conducted a targeted operation yesterday morning at a guesthouse in Cole Bay, as part of an ongoing investigation into human smuggling.

Thirteen Haitians and one Dominican Republic national were detained.

“These individuals have been placed in immigration detention as the investigation continues. In accordance with established procedures, officers from the Immigration and Border Protection Services will assist KPSM in processing the detained individuals to facilitate their eventual repatriation to their native countries,” KPSM said in a statement.

Police said they will continue their efforts to combat human trafficking in Sint Maarten.

Anyone with information about human smuggling on Sint Maarten is asked to contact their nears police station or the anonymous tip line.
