Hundreds of parents and guardians from across St. Kitts gathered at Independence Square on 29th November 2024 for “ASPIRE Day,” marking a significant step in the implementation of the government’s revolutionary ASPIRE programme.
The initiative, designed to empower young people aged 5-18, offers an EC$1,000 contribution to each eligible child, divided into two parts: EC$500 placed in a savings account at the St. Kitts Nevis Anguilla National Bank and EC$500 invested in shares of local, government-owned entities.
This innovative approach aims to foster financial literacy and positive saving habits among the nation’s youth while encouraging early engagement in investment practices.
Minister of Finance, Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew, visited the event where he commended parents and guardians for taking the opportunity to help secure their children’s financial futures. He expressed his gratitude for the continued support of the ASPIRE programme, which is designed to equip the next generation with the tools necessary for financial independence.
Earlier in the day, the ASPIRE Ambassadors met with Prime Minister Drew at his office, where he thanked them for their contribution to the programme’s success. The ambassadors played a key role in organising the event, ensuring its smooth execution and raising awareness across the community.
Following the success of the St. Kitts event, a similar ASPIRE registration drive will be held in Nevis on 6th December 2024, continuing the momentum of the initiative across the Federation.
With the continued support of the community, ASPIRE looks set to leave a lasting impact on the financial well-being of St. Kitts and Nevis’ youth.
