The Department of Youth Empowerment brought Youth Month 2024 to a triumphant close with the Youth Service Reception and Awards on 28th November at the Royal St. Kitts Hotel. The evening celebrated partners, organisations, and individuals dedicated to youth development, highlighting their contributions to the year’s success.
Minister of State for Youth Empowerment, Senator Isalean Phillip, welcomed attendees, expressing gratitude for longstanding partnerships that have consistently uplifted the nation’s youth.
A video presentation narrated by outgoing Director Sahira Joseph showcased 2024’s impactful activities, such as the High School Chef Competition, the Minister’s Youth Forum, and the 25 Most Remarkable Teens Awards.
The night’s honourees included Claricia Langley Stevens, who received the Minister’s Award for her exceptional contributions, and Patrice Harris, recipient of the Director’s Award. The St. Kitts National Youth Parliament Association was lauded as the Most Outstanding Youth Organisation, while the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank was named the Most Generous Sponsor.
Additional awards celebrated Eurecia Foster as Best Youth Volunteer, David Caines as Best Adult Volunteer, and Zakiya Maynard for the Best Project by a 25 Most Remarkable Teen. Island Auto Supply was recognised as the Most Outstanding Partner, and Supporting Partners Troy Hendrickson, Sindy Smith, and Nicole Boddie were also honoured.
Minister of Youth Empowerment and Education, Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, praised the dedication of the awardees and extended heartfelt thanks to Mrs. Joseph for her years of leadership and service within the Department of Youth Empowerment.
Youth Month 2024 demonstrated a successful mix of traditional and innovative activities, underscoring the government’s commitment to nurturing young talent and fostering meaningful community engagement.
As the nation looks forward to 2025, the department’s achievements provide a robust foundation for continued growth and empowerment.
