Minister Duggins Celebrates Kaitlynn Wilson’s Haynes Smith Victory

Kaitlynn Wilson, the 16-year-old sensation from St. Kitts, was this week celebrated by minister responsible for the Creative Economy, Samal Duggins, for her outstanding achievement in being crowned the Haynes Smith Miss Caribbean Talented Teen 2024.

The prestigious 42nd annual pageant, held on 29th December 2024 at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex in Tortola, BVI, featured 13 contestants from across the region. For the first time, the event took place outside St. Kitts and Nevis, making Kaitlynn’s victory even more historic.

In addition to claiming the crown, she was awarded Best Talent for her breathtaking acrobatic performance, which left both judges and spectators in awe.

During a recognition ceremony at the ministry’s conference room, Minister Duggins expressed immense pride in Kaitlynn’s accomplishments, which followed her earlier success in the 2023 Miss Teen St. Kitts and Nevis Pageant.

“You have made us all proud,” Minister Duggins remarked. “This is not just about pageantry; these experiences have contributed to your personal growth. Seeing how much you’ve evolved as a person is inspiring.”

The minister extended gratitude to Kaitlynn’s support team for their dedication and to the St. Kitts and Nevis National Carnival Committee (SKNNCC) for their ongoing efforts to provide platforms for local talent to excel internationally.

Expressing her joy at winning, Kaitlynn described the experience as thrilling and humbling.

“Going two for two in pageants is a dream come true,” she said, acknowledging the fans who cheered for her both in Tortola and on social media. She credited her success to the unwavering support of her team, family, and the SKNNCC.

The event was attended by Permanent Secretary of the Creative Economy, Delrine Taylor; SKNNCC Chair Shannon Hawley; Director of Carnival, Clement O’Garro; members of Kaitlynn’s team; and her family. The atmosphere was one of celebration and pride as attendees reflected on Ms. Wilson’s remarkable journey.

Her victory not only highlights the immense talent nurtured in St. Kitts and Nevis but also underscores the Federation’s ability to shine on a regional stage. Kaitlynn’s triumph serves as an inspiration for young creatives across the Federation, proving that with talent, dedication, and support, the possibilities to excell are endless.
