A 27-year-old Redemption Sharpes resident has been charged with murder following the fatal shooting of a farmer in Petit Bordel late last month.
Iran Stapleton, described as a labourer, appeared before the Serious Offences Court on October 9 in connection with the death of Othnell Lavia, 37.
Due to the indictable nature of the charge, no plea was entered during the hearing. Stapleton was remanded into custody until October 15.
Lavia was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds on Sunday, September 29, 2024, and was later pronounced dead.
A post-mortem examination revealed the cause of death as “exsanguination due to multiple gunshot wounds.”
The incident occurred just two days after another fatal shooting in the same area. Stanron Stapleton, a 29-year-old labourer from Rose Hall, was killed in Petit Bordel on September 27, 2024.
The Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) continues to investigate both cases.
Authorities are appealing to the public for assistance, urging anyone with information that could aid in these or other investigations to come forward.
Police emphasize that investigations into both recent shootings are ongoing as they work to “bring all responsible parties to justice.”
